Above are pictures that document an experiment we did. In October we hollowed out a pumpkin and filled it with a banana peel, wrapper, plastic top, and a baggie. We made predictions on what we thought would happen to the items if we buried the pumpkin and dug it up on Earth Day in April. Well….on Friday we went digging. We only found the plastic items and wrapper. There was no trace of the banana peel or the pumpkin. This was a great opportunity to talk about what happened and to discuss the impact our trash has on our environment. Hopefully your kids were able to tell you about it.
Here is what we are learning this week:
Math: Arrays up to 5x5; We will use addition to find the total number of objects arranged in rectangular arrays with up to 5 rows and up to 5 columns.
Reading/Language Arts: Charlotte’s Web novel study. We will be applying the reading strategies we have learned this year as we read this classic story/-er , -or endings
Writing: Illustrating our Author’s Tea pieces; Informational (biographies)
Science: Life cycle of a frog.
